The rain had passed. The grass was damp. And the sun began to peak through the clouds as the players took to the field with full stomachs of corn chips and grilled hot dogs in a volleyball game for the ages...Experience vs. Youth. With a non-partial judge on the ladder and a competent back-up score keeper at the helm, the game began with an overhead serve of the Extreme Sports Elmo Ball. The Teens were caught off guard as the ball fell to the ground giving the Wise Parents a quick one-point advantage. (Maybe the teens had overlooked the shrewdness of their opponent.) Play quickly resumed and Adam "The Beast" Winner was given a stern verbal warning about spiking the ball and intimidation. It was obvious that everyone's competitive spirit was on overdrive this day, but luckily the judge was there to keep order. Back and forth the game went with only a minor interruption by the occasional rogue leaf.
In the second and final game of the evening there was a new ball and a heightened sense of competitiveness among the teams. As the parents score climbed higher so did the teens complaints about the sun in their eyes. And just when you thought the game was over, the Teens called in one of their bench players...Chris "The Serve-Master" Foote! He rattled off five quick points in a row, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. The Parents took home the prize with a 15-10 victory. And I can still hear them chanting their team motto as they marched off the field: "Respect Your Elders!" Keep your chin up, teenagers. There's always next year.

Thank You
I would like to thank the people of the Lawton Evangelical Mennonite Church for allowing me to play in the brass ensemble last Sunday. I herd that people enjoyed it, we are planning on trying it again sometime during the summer.
Yours truly, Collin Rumsey

Re: Wide World of Sports (in Lawton)
You should've been a poet. That was the most touching piece of literature that I have ever read:) Sounds like it was a lot of fun!!!!

Re: Wide World of Sports (in Lawton)
..and the masters of the volleyball universe rule with an iron fist and will swat down all newcomers to the game (as long as we have the greatest ref. in the world) that would be Judge Eric who is much better then Judge Judy. God Bless. The old man of the sea.
